Equipment

  • 1 Large Baking Sheet with an edge

Ingredients

  • 10 cups of Corn Chex Cereal
  • 1 Cup Walnuts
  • 1 Cup Pecans
  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Maple Syrup
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla
  • 2 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 5 oz. Apple Chips
  • 2 Cups Dried Cherries

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°.
  • Melt the butter, sugars and maple syrup in a saucepan or in the microwave.
  • Once the butter is melted, and the sugar is dissolved, add the vanilla, salt and cinnamon. Mix well.
  • Put all the cereal in a large bowl.
  • Pour the sugar and butter mixture over the cereal. Using a large spoon stire from the bottom to coat all the cereal with the mixture.
  • Spoon the mixture onto a large cookie sheet with a lip around the edge.
  • Bake for 40 minutes in a 350° oven.
  • Turn the cereal every 10 minutes, with a large spatula, making sure to lift the bottom layer to the top. The idea is to crisp up the cereal and bake the sugar onto the cereal.
  • After 40 minutes, take the cereal out of the oven and let cool to room temperature.
  • Crush the apple chips into smaller pieces, about the size of the individual Chex cereal. Add the dried cherries and mix until everything is evenly distributed.
