Shrimp and Grits

Old Fashioned Grits made with milk and cheese, then topped off with garlic shrimp that has been garnished with pieces of crispy bacon.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Cups Chicken Broth
  • 2 Cups Milk
  • 3/4 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Pepper
  • 3/4 Cup Old Fashioned Grits
  • 1 1/2 Cup Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/4 Cup Butter

Garlic Shrimp

  • 8 Slices Thick Sliced Bacon
  • 2 Lbs. Shrimp
  • 5 Cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 dash Cayenne Pepper

Instructions
 

  • Bring the chicken broth and milk to a boil.  Add grits slowly and cook for 15-20 minutes with the lid on.  Stir occasionally.  Add cheese when finished cooking. Mix until melted and then add butter and mix in.  Put the lid on and set aside.
  • Cook the bacon slices.  Remove from the pan when crispy.  Place on paper towels to cool.
  • Keep two tablespoons of grease in the pan and remove the rest.
  • Place thawed shrimp in the pan with bacon grease and cook until pink.  Sprinkle on Old Bay seasoning.  Turn over and cook the other side until it is pink. Cook the shrimp in batches and add garlic to the last batch.
  • Spoon the cooked grits on a plate or in a bowl.  Spoon on the cooked shrimp and then garnish with pieces of crispy bacon.
